The Vernons of Hanbury, by Andrew Harris.

This book is a new history of the Vernon family of Hanbury Hall. The Vernons first came to England with William the Conqueror and in the sixteenth century a branch was settled in Staffordshire. Rev. Richard Vernon came from this branch and was appointed rector of Hanbury in 1580. His descendant Thomas Vernon was a successful Chancery lawyer and substantially increased the family estates, including the building of Hanbury Hall. The book publishes, for the first time, extracts from newly discovered letters relating to an 18th century scandal. The family's fortunes are followed right through to Sir George Vernon, the last of the line, who died in 1940.
