John Cotton: Life of a Midlands Architect, 1844-1934

John Cotton was a 19th century architect, known for numerous buildings in Birmingham and the surrounding area. His private papers, known as the Cotton Collection, is housed at the Library of Birmingham. Published in 2002, this biography covers both his personal life and his buildings, with many illustrations.

Part I takes us through John Cotton's difficult personal ife, from his upbringing in Bromsgrove to his struggle to become a successful architect without the benefit of Articles.
